Mental Health and Wellbeing

At Langtoft Primary School we understand that a child’s emotional health and wellbeing influences their cognitive development and learning as well as their physical and social health and their mental wellbeing in adulthood.  Children need good mental health in order to thrive and achieve their full potential.

To support children with their mental health we aim to:

  • ensure the learning environment is safe and calm.  We teach the children how to be resilient to enable them to manage their feelings.  We teach the children about mental wellbeing through our PSHE curriculum and throughout the school day, such as in assemblies and other curriculum areas.
  • have good relationships with children and their parents/carers, ensuring that we are able to recognise issues that may arise concerning mental wellbeing. We encourage parents and carers to talk about their concerns at the earliest opportunity.
  • work with children and their families to support their mental wellbeing.  This may involve group or individual interventions such as Lego Therapy, Therabuild, Feelings Detectives and Drawing & Talking including support from our ELSA and Learning Mentor.
  • work with external agencies where necessary to provide access to specialist support.

If you have concerns about your child’s mental health and wellbeing, please contact us through [email protected]. As the school’s Mental Health Lead, Mrs Wood along with Mrs Nickson will support you and your child and be able to signpost you to services that provide specialist support.
